Combicore presents stable inlay tubes at the WFO-Forum at the Gifa

Aluminum tubes are now used with pressure casting

GIFA-LogoThe experts were meeting for one week at the casting trade fair (GIFA) in Düsseldorf. According to the slogan „The Bright World of Metal“ Drahtzug Stein combicore presented filled and therefore highly stable inlay tubes of aluminum to a very interested audience. During the 30 minute presentation at the „World Foundry Organisation (WFO) Technical Forum“ of the Federal Association of Foundry Industry (BDG) the Diplom Ing. Frank Heppes presented his invention. Mr. Heppes is in charge of the R&D Department for Drahtzug Stein combicore in Altleiningen. Traditionally thick-walled and therefore heavy steel tubes are inserted with aluminum pressure casting. Empty aluminum tubes lose their shape and get deformed while using casting pressure of more than 1,000 bar. The usage of steel tubes has other numerous disadvantages and the caster would love to use aluminum tubes. Highly stable combicore inlay tubes accomplish this requirement and offer numerous benefits: On one side combicore cores with aluminum casing are considerably lighter than conventional steel tubes and can be molded with a minor wall thickness. This saves material and resources during the running foundry operation as well as later at the end user. On the other side combicore inlay tubes consist of a core casing that was adapted in the cast or rather casting process and which remains in the cast piece and copies the required cavity. This is why those aluminum tubes have almost the same or at least similar coefficient of thermal expansion like the ambient melt. This is especially important for an optimized cooling effect with cooling channels. Furthermore, reduced tooling wear is expected by the processing and rejects can be recycled much better without the interference factor of steel as there is no need of separating different materials.
